„Cooperatives – idea and practice „

Interesting contribution on the concept of cooperatives in Germany.

„Cooperative – the simple explanation. The so-called „Genossenschaftsidee“ – the idea of cooperatives – will be presented as the first German proposal for the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in March 2015.“

A German version of the video one finds here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O10T7uRk6U. (Thanks to Walter Vogt, who send me the link.) Here ins an interesting article on cooperatives, in German language.… Mehr lesen...

„Across age groups, views of unions are most positive among young adults“

Interesting results from a survey conducted in the U.S. in March 2015: The views  of unions are more positive among young adults.

„55% of those ages 18-29 view unions favorably, while just 29% view them unfavorably. Among older adults, favorability ratings of unions are mixed with about as many holding favorable as unfavorable views.“ (Source: http://www.people-press.org/2015/04/27/mixed-views-of-impact-of-long-term-decline-in-union-membership)

The age effect is even observable if one controls for the political orientation. (Unfortunately the survey uses different age categories in the next two tables.)

One of the worst forms of exploitation: Forced child labour

pepbonet„As part of the Modern-Day Forms of Slavery group project, a photojournalistic investigation by NOOR, Pep Bonet focuses on the issue of child labour and exploitation in Bangladesh where there are nearly 5 million children between the age of 5 – 15 working in hazardous conditions in factories, garages and homes, in railway stations and markets, in small foundries — many for little or no pay at all. Many boys and girls who work do not have access to education and become trapped in low-skilled, low-pay work that further binds them into the cycle of poverty.“ (Source: http://pepbonet.com/2013/08/portfolio/child-labour-and-exploitation-in-bangladesh/)
