Global Footprint Network tracks humanity’s demand on the planet (Ecological Footprint) against nature’s ability to provide for this demand (biocapacity). Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s annual demand on nature exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. Heute, am 13. August 2015, ist der Tag bezogen auf dieses Jahr, an dem der Verbrauch natürlicher Ressourcen größer ist als der Verbrauch, den wir haben dürften, damit die Weltressourcen reprouziert werden können. Morgen, am 14. August, verbrauchen wir also schon die Substanz der Erde. Eine neue Erde ist nicht in Sicht.
